Opening Sequence - Sexy Beast

 The opening sequence of this film, carries a satirical and relaxed feel. We also learn from the opening this is a FilmFour film, with a main character, played by Ray Winstone. As Ray Winstone is a well known actor this may have interested a wider audience due to his following. This scene intrigues us and includes:

• A man in small swimwear, lying on a sunbed, with sunglasses. Next to him lies a few empty bottles of beer and a bottle on tanning oil. 
• As more credits are shown on the screen we see a static shot of the man lying there.
• Later on inn the scene we see the man sit up, in the back of the frame out of focus, a pool cleaner. 

These things explain to the audience is clearly living a luxurious lifestyle, and perhaps has no worries. As we continue to watch we see a pool with two love hearts in it, suggesting a second character and perhaps a relationship. It cuts to introduce a second, female, character which we automatically link to the man. There is a raucous band playing who sound rebellious and perhaps a bit careless, therefore reflecting on our main character.

The opening sequence tells us this is a Stanley Kubrick film, produced by Warner Bros. We see a few of the actors names come up on the screen such as Danny Lloyd, this could make an audience want to watch it more or perhaps put the off the film. If there is an actor involved who has a large following and would bring in a bigger potential audience then their name would be featured here. It is also made aware that Stephen King is the writer of the novel, of which this film is based on.

The scene sets up questions and ideas into our head, makes us wander what is going on and what may occur. There is a car driving in a particular direction which adds a sense of anticipation and tension. As it is plain and seems isolated this suggest to us it is some kind of horror or thriller genre, however as the audience would usually know what film they're going to see they most likely would be aware of the genre.

The music is incredibly effective and is arguably the most important element to this scene, It is mainly low based how ever there are these horrific high pitched shrieks and squeals over the top as well as other subtly layers. This music is a key indicator that this is a horror film and adds massive tension and drama to the opening sequence.

The scenery also stays very true and traditional to the genre or stereotype of a horror/thriller. The land is natural, and seems isolated and as if it never ends. The whole scene is very Scenic and seems gorgeous however the music adds a dark twist.
